In May last year, Plymouth Community Homes (PCH) announced it will be delivering more affordable homes for South East Cornwall after securing a range of two, three and four bedroom properties in Bodmin.

Earlier this month, PCH took handover of the final six homes within the Highfield Park development in Bodmin, one of Cornwall’s oldest towns, which have been made available for affordable rent and shared ownership purchase.

PCH is the largest social housing landlord in Plymouth, managing 16,000 homes within the city, as well as across the surrounding drive to work area within South and West Devon and South East Cornwall.

Of the 24 homes, the final two-bedroom and four-bedroom homes are currently available for bid on Cornwall Homechoice. In total, 17 homes will be offered for affordable rent to local people, including a mix of one-bedroom flats and two, three and four-bedroom houses.

Within the development, seven homes were also made available for shared ownership purchase through our sales brand SO Living, including a selection of two and three bedroom houses.

The Highfield Park development has been built by Pearce Fine Homes and is located close to a wide range of amenities including schools, a college, shops and major supermarkets.

The new-build Bodmin homes were purchased thanks to PCH working in partnership with Cornwall Council through the Cornwall Housing Partnership.

The acquisition follows affordable homes secured by PCH at development sites in the area surrounding Plymouth in recent years including at sites in Liskeard, Callington, St Ann’s Chapel, Yelverton, Newton Ferrers, Sherford and Tavistock.

Claire Baldry, Project Manager at PCH, said: “It has been a pleasure to work with Pearce Fine Homes on the delivery of 24 new affordable homes at Highfield Park. We are delighted with the homes which are finished to a high specification, with spacious rooms, generous gardens, and far-reaching views of the countryside. The residents who have moved in, are happy and feel proud to be living on a new development, with a great community spirit.”

Ben Pearce, Managing Director at Pearce Fine Homes, said: “We have enjoyed working with PCH on this development and are delighted to be part of a scheme to assist in delivering quality affordable housing.”

Olly Monk, Cornwall Council cabinet portfolio holder for housing, said: “There is an unprecedented need for housing in Cornwall, and providing homes for residents is our one of our key priorities.

“I’m delighted that through this partnership with PCH we have been able to provide much needed homes in an area where there is high demand.”

The first affordable homes offered for rent or shared ownership sale through PCH were made available from summer 2023. The final homes for rent are currently available on Cornwall Homechoice.
