For our next edition of our Homegrown Heroes series, we spoke to Will Tibbott, a Multi-Skilled Approved Electrician at Plymouth Community Homes (PCH).
After leaving the Army in 2016, Will joined PCH at the age of 24 as an Apprentice Electrician where he completed his Level 3 Apprenticeship.
In the second year of his apprenticeship Will passed his 2391-51, a City & Guilds Combined Level 3 Award in Inspection and Testing, a comprehensive course concentrating on the theory elements of Inspection and Testing which would usually be achieved at the end of the three-year apprenticeship.
In 2019, Will achieved his AM2 Assessment of Occupational Competence, and in 2020, after completing his apprenticeship Will made the decision to leave the company to develop his skillset and gain more experience across different industries and companies.
Upon successfully developing his knowledge, in 2024 Will applied for the position of Multi-Skilled Approved Electrician at PCH and was successful upon interview, returning to PCH earlier this year.
Will said: “I really enjoyed my Apprenticeship at PCH, and I learned so much more then I could ever have imagined. The skills that I developed allowed me to transfer into different areas including commercial, industrial and high voltage which are completely opposite to the work I carried out at PCH.
“I am so glad that I made the decision to return to working at PCH. I get along well with everyone; the management are great, and I am trusted to get on with my job.
“I enjoy having my own van, being able to manage my own day and there’s good perks. PCH has always been good to me. It just feels like home.”
Daren Newcombe, Electrical Manager at PCH, said: “I am really pleased Will completed his apprenticeship with PCH, and I am glad that his work and development with another large employer within Plymouth was beneficial for him and his career. When we recently advertised the post, we were pleased to see Will’s application. This shows PCH to be a great employer with employees wanting to come back after gaining different skills.”
