Festive Lantern Parade Lights Up North Prospect

15 January 25

In a display of community spirit, Plymouth Community Homes, Sovereign Network Group and The Conscious Sisters joined forces to organise a lantern parade that brought light and joy to North Prospect.

The event followed creative lantern-making workshops where adults and children crafted stunning designs, including beautiful stars, a giant candy cane, and giant gingerbreads.

Hayley Kemp, Communities Worker at Plymouth Community Homes reflected on the event:

"It was fabulous to see the community come together, walking side by side lighting the path they walked.  It is just as wonderful to see the other residents coming out of their doors welcoming them.  It was truly magical and shows what a community can do together to bring light into the darkness."

On the evening of the parade, a group of around thirty walked through the streets of North Prospect with glowing lanterns. Along the way, they stopped at the SNG sheltered housing scheme to share carols with residents and spread festive cheer.

Fiona and Karen from The Conscious Sisters praised the event:

“It was a lovely community event that brought people together in a very joyous way- it was a pleasure to work with them”

Wherever the parade passed, cars beeped in joy and residents cheered and welcomed the celebration by the front of their homes.

The evening concluded at The Beacon, where everyone enjoyed hot chocolate, cakes, and sandwiches generously provided by the NP Food Coop.

This heartwarming event brought the community together in a festival of light that was welcomed and enjoyed by the local community.

Henry Palmer, Community Investment & Partnership Lead at Sovereign Network Group said:

"At SNG, we are committed to pursuing partnerships and investment opportunities that benefit our residents and the broader communities that they live in. Collaborating with PCH and The Conscious Sisters is a meaningful step toward fostering the communal harmony that makes neighbourhoods truly great places to live. We’re excited to explore further collaborations in the coming year!”
