16 Days of Action – Charity Spotlight – The Olive Project

02 December 24

The Olive Project NEW

During previous 16 Days of Action Against Domestic Abuse campaigns, we have put a spotlight on local support organisations, including NSPCC and Refuge4Pets.

This year we are putting a spotlight on The Olive Project, who provide specialist support to black and minoritised victims and survivors of Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence.

The Olive Project provide a service to black and minoritised victims of abuse and provide a service that takes into account their needs and lived experiences.

According to The Olive Project, black and minoritised women are more likely to stay longer in an abusive relationship, not to report to the police, and have multiple perpetrators. They believe a by and for organisation is best to provide this support.

They provide training courses and lead on local campaigns to create real change in Devon and the surrounding areas.

Find out more about The Olive Project, their history, values and plan as well as the support they provide here.

We spoke to Alexis Wright, the Chief Executive Officer at The Olive Project, who have previously supported our residents.

She said: “As a by and for organisation we know the challenges of asking for help from organisations. It’s a risk to share your story when you might be judged or stereotyped for the colour of your skin, your immigration status or your religion.

“The Olive Project is dedicated to working with black and minoritised victims and survivors of abuse. We offer 1-2-1 support that includes risk assessments, safety planning, advocacy and emotional support. Please call if you would like our help.”
